The presentation focused on the practical application of Bioremediation that is the process of use of either naturally occurring or deliberately introduced microorganisms to consume and break down environmental pollutants into less or almost non-toxic metabolites, in order to clean a polluted site. Nowadays, textile industrial effluents contributes to huge amount of water pollution because of the use of carcinogenic aromatic and azo dyes and heavy metals. Bioremediation can be applied to these textile industrial effluents successfully by implementation of the four following phenomenon- Biodegradation, Biosorption, Phytoremediation and Microbial Enzymatic Treatment. Besides microorganisms, jute stick powder can also be used as a source of adsorption of textile effluents.

The presentation was delivered on application of ionic liquids for making regenerated cellulose fibre. It was discussed that ionic liquids are a novel material which retains the degree of polymerization of native cellulose chain and hence the regenerated fibres obtained are having improved mechanical properties.
