Montana Department of Agriculture expands hay lottery for ranchers impacted by fire


KEEP THE EMERGENCY VEHICLE STOCKED. THE MONTANA DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE -WILL NOWEXPAND THE STATE HAY LOTTERY – FOR RANCHERS IMPACTED BY THE FIRES. THE MDA WILL ADMINISTER THE LOTTERY, WITH DRAWINGS – SET FOR EARLY OCTOBER. LIVESTOCK PRODUCERS WHO HAVE ALREADY APPLIED FOR THE LOTTERY – BUT HAVE NOT BEENSELECTED -WILL STILL QUALIFY FOR FUTURE DRAWINGS. TO BE ELIGIBLE – LIVESTOCK PRODUCERS MUST BE FROM A D2, D3, OR D4… OR – AFIRE- AFFECTED COUNTY -AND MUST OWN AT LEAST 25 QUALIFYING ANIMALS. ABOUT THREE QUARTERS OF THE STATE ISUNDER A D2 OR HIGHER DROUGHT LEVEL.. ANDMORE THAN 925-THOUSAND MONTANANS – ARE UNDER SOMEFORM OF DROUGHT.
