The benefits of producer network groups

(lighthearted music) – My name is Sue Heaney. I’m part of a BestWool/BestLamb group, running a prime lamb production
farm near Benalla, Victoria. I run the farm with my husband
and our three children. I’m involved in the Eurora
BestWool/BestLamb group, which is a women’s group. Also, the Lifetime Ewe Management which is in conjunction with my husband, and the preparing for
the next tryout group. Lifetime Ewe Management groups are held in various locations
all over the countryside and we meet about six
to seven times a year, usually at each other’s properties. Usually have a cup of
coffee and a bit of a chat and then we’ll go into
our topic of discussion. The facilitator will talk about that, as well as there will
be group discussions, usually have a bit of lunch, and then we, in the afternoon, we’ll
go and do a farm walk of the person’s property. We usually go and discuss varying things from animal health, to pasture growth, water, or whatever it is
that there is to look at. – I sort of didn’t
want to go to it for start and then after I went there
and started opening me eyes up a bit more and then I
realized that it helped me in a lot of things. It was like a jigsaw puzzle
and after you went there, talked to everyone, everything
sort of fitted together which helped a fair bit. – To go to the BestWool/BestLamb group and actually sit down with
a bunch of older farmers, they’ve just got so much
more different experiences and stories to tell and me being young, I like to soak all up the information and see what I can do with what I learn and give it a crack. – I knew there were some farmers in this area tied up with
a few lamb and ewe groups and we just pickin’ the right one that we could go and deal with and I’m glad that we did. – Just do it. You won’t regret it. It’s so beneficial to your business and it just gives you
really good direction as to how you should be doing things. The best way to find out
about them is just to contact Ag Victoria and they’ll have a list of who the facilitators are in your area. (lighthearted music)
