I do believe Farmers should NOT Pay Taxes. It's a very Hard Job to do. What would you and anyone else to get milk, vegetables and fruits and so forth? Farmers are underpaid and we NEED Farmers to stay… 🤠🏇🤠 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 👍💕👍

One of the things that can help with small dairies is to be able to sell fresh milk off the farm. I know in Nebraska they do this and its what carries that farmer. People are looking for good healthy raw milk from clean farms… Why all the laws prohibiting that? It only hurts the farmer more.

its a shame a lot of my neighbors care more about illegal immigration than farming. when asked why I sold my dairy and I told them they just shrugged their shoulders YET they will stand here for a hour and talk about politics to me.  it shows me no one cares about their food source they just expect it to be there in the grocery store. when I tell people I make about 4 dollars a hour farming oh well yet take those same people and cut their wages and see how they scream then.

The more I think about this, small farms will continue to go through difficult times. A small dairy farm with less than 150 cows will no longer make it. To milk cows twice a day and seven days a week is not an easy task. My grandfather helped his brother many times when his brother or son was sick. Dairy farming will be a big business with several employees to keep the farm going. And don’t forget the corn silage, alfalfa hay, calves, and everything else that goes along with it. Dairy farming is a very hard life, almost non-stop.
And on top of all that the kids want to get away from the farm. So in the end it will be big business.
The grain farmers of the 50’s and 60’s that made a living on 100-150 acres are now farming 2500 acres and more. One combine (Class 9) today cuts 100-150 acres in ONE DAY.

It's sad the younger generation don't want to do it we need to close the borders down and start taking care of us here in the United States because without the true farmers where would people go and get their food other than across the water people better wake up

It is so funny that ignorance comes from people who probably never set foot on a farm! Yes blame Trump for a problem that started in the 80’s milk prices per100 haven’t changed all that much since. Try building and selling houses for 80’s prices in 2019! Good luck! We need to cut the middle man’s profit and we need to pay more for a gallon of milk. We pay the cheapest prices for food in this country around the world , yet we complain the most.
We must take care of our farmers or we will wake up one day and be starving!

the reason why the dairy industry is shutting down is because the demand has shifted toward the plant based milk industry. that simple

The answer…quotas, quotas, quotas. And I am a conservative…actually a reactionary. The problem is the George Soros of the world don't want independent, prosperous farmers. Why does he still live???

With Canada paying outrageous subsidies to there dairies the US dairy farmer can not compete. Also mega farms are ending the family farm in America. Everybody wants milk prices from the 70's &80's but they want to earn 2018 paychecks.

The problem isn't milk its dairy. Its time to change the cow for some oats Wisconsin. Oatly $5 a 1/2 gallon at the grocery store.

Using the number of dairy farms as a metric is a bit misleading.

The numbers of milking cows is better or if want to do better than that litres of milk produced, is probably the gold standard to be able to describe whether the industry is expanding or contracting to a person that is not involved in dairy.

Subsidies encourage over production and then margins shrink. Small margins means only the largest producers can make a profit. Subsidies create factory farms, which kill the family farm.

Hate the Canadian quota system but it at least protects small farms and does not need massive taxpayer funded subsidies.

Happening everywhere. People are drinking less milk, input costs are high and returns are low, no younger generations taking over etc etc etc dozens of reasons.

The ad before the video was for oat milk.
From plants you get sap, juice, nectar, and oil. Plant milks are nothing but an emulsion of oil and water.

Admittedly, I don't live in a 'food desert' so my choices are extensive, and even better if I hop on the subway to buy in Manhattan. You wanna know what causes these failures? Ignorance on the part of the consumer, and the voter. I lived in Wyoming, Indiana, and Nebraska, so I know what people there do and how they live. (Someone even took me pheasant hunting.) So as a consumer, when I step up to the dairy aisle, I have choice of whom to support: soy farmers in Brazil or dairy farms in upstate New York? I support both. When society becomes a race to the bottom, it is the megacorps that benefit. Now it's dairy farmers and soon it will be your job that they come for next. But don't worry just listen to the liar in the White House, things are great! It's these unionists, socialists and pinko communists that you need to worry about! Keep shopping at Wal-Mart and never you mind how many family businesses hemorrhage and die off. This is what becoming non-thinking lemmings does for you, hang in there, you will need to use your brains: https://youtu.be/rvkEpstd9os

Its simple demand and supply, any business without barriers to entry will be flooded with suppliers and so more milk than required leading to low prices. Try the supply side Canadian system.
